The first smile, the first step, the first word: all of these become memories of childhood that you’ll cherish for a lifetime. Here’s some information about those dental milestones (we call them Smilestones) just so you know what to expect:
The first baby teeth to make an appearance are the two bottom front teeth. You’ll probably notice this when your baby is about six to eight months old, followed by the four upper front teeth. The rest will appear periodically, usually appearing in pairs along the sides of the jaw until your child is about 2 ½ years old.
At around 2 ½ years old, your child should have all 20 teeth. Between the ages of five and six, the first permanent teeth will begin to erupt. Now here’s an important thing to remember: all children are different. Some of the permanent teeth replace baby teeth and some don’t. Don’t worry if some teeth are a few months early or late. Baby teeth ARE important: they not only hold space for the permanent teeth but they’re important for chewing, biting and speech, not to mention how adorable they look when they smile!
Smile Builders wants to help you celebrate! Smilestones is a perfect way to introduce your child to the idea of regular dental visits. Smilestones is a program of Smile Builders designed to promote good oral hygiene and oral health as early as possible. Here’s how it works:
